I prefer the original title of The Gambler's Tale, as a title like Confessions of a Yakuza seems to promise a bloody tale rife with violence, murder, sex and crime. Lyrics from a previous album, “Love and Theft,” were similar to passages from the gangster novel “Confessions of a Yakuza,” by the Japanese writer Junichi Saga. Mobster's Confessions is the story of a con-man whose ultra-successful fleecing of unscrupulous businesses leads him to the forced employ of a yakuza crime boss. It is not known where the money was collected but probably not from a celebrity auction or nationwide lemonade sales. This is my first book review on this blog, and it's a doozy. The Yamaguchi-gumi, Japan's top yakuza group, is already said to have collected the bail money. The songwriter has grabbed not only from a panoply of vintage Hollywood films but from Shakespeare and F. In “Love and Theft” Bob not only borrows a few melodies, he also borrows phrases, most notably from Japanese author Junichi Saga in his book Confessions of a Yakuza.
